The Refracted Body: Performance, Glass, and Projection

Sunita Prasad, Liesl Schubel

Utilizing our bodies as an artistic tool, this class will encourage experimentation with the potential of glass as a form of time-based media in conjunction with performance and video. No prior experience is required, and we will spend the week focused on the conceptual possibilities of an interdisciplinary approach rather than technical instruction in either glass or video. Students will have access to the hot shop, cold shop, and flat shop as places to create or perform with glass elements. Through conversation, mental and physical exercises, and studio play, students will complete a series of performative acts. Working with simple equipment (phone cameras, live feed streams, projectors), we will begin to manipulate, play, and transform perspective and movement.
