Cut & Flow- Kilnforming

Jane Bruce

Through cutting and fusing flat sheet glass in multiple kiln firings, students will have the opportunity to create complex patterns of their own design. The heat of the kiln and gravity will be explored to allow these patterns to flow and create variety in composition and color. The resulting highly patterned tiles will then be slumped into a number of shapes or left as decorative wall panels. Areas covered will include fusing and slumping, as well as the coldworking techniques of cutting, grinding and polishing to refine work made in the kilns. Two short presentations on historical & contemporary kilnformed glass will complement hands-on work.
