OPENING: Online commercial exhibition billed as a tribute to Harvey Littleton

The online shopping site Artful Home has grouped 22 glass works in its extensive "Art Glass" section as a "Tribute exhibiiton to Harvey Littleton."There is no opportunity to actually see these works in real life, and no catalogue essay, but each of the artists featured in this grouping have provided quotes on the influence of the late founder of Studio Glass on his or her work and career. The quotes range from the personal to the generic, depending on the level of familiarity each artist had with Littleton.

''Harvey was always ahead of his time," writes Thomas Philabaum, who studied directly with Harvey K. Littleton at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. "He promoted ''professional practices'' in the late 60s and early 70s in the form of seminars. While urging us to utilize smart business practices, Harvey always maintained that we should uphold the highest standards of artistic integrity.''

Other artists included in this diverse grouping include Rick Beck, Christopher Jeffries, Elodie Holmes, Shawn Messenger, Janet and Rick Nicholson, Mary Mullaney and Ralph Mossman, Warner Whitfield, Wes Hunting, Steven Main, Daniel Scogna, Thor Bueno, Paul D. Harrie, and Tommie Rush. Prices range from $300 to $8,000.

Ten percent of the proceeds from this sale are earmarked for the Harvey and Bess Littleton Scholarship Fund at the Penland School of Crafts.

"The Harvey Littleton Tribute" virtual exhibition "opens" tomorrow and will continue through April 19, 2014.
